Specimen: Large fossil slice of silicified wood from Madagascar dating to the Triassic period about 220 million years ago.
Description from the seller
An authentic fragment of geological time, this piece of fossilized wood comes from Madagascar and has been cut transversely from an ancient silicified trunk dating back to the Triassic period (about 220 million years ago). It is an extraordinary specimen of petrified wood, which has preserved the original wood structures intact, completely transformed into quartz through a slow mineralization process.
The natural coloration of this slab varies from cream to beige, with intense ochre and reddish veins that evoke the presence of iron oxides. In the center of the section, growth rings are clearly visible, along with a radial structure that testifies to the tree's life before fossilization. The irregular shades and fractures filled with minerals give the object a painterly and sculptural appearance, blending natural beauty with a powerful decorative value.
Fossilized wood is composed almost entirely of crystalline silica (microcrystalline quartz), with mineral inclusions that vary depending on the original composition of the soil and circulating fluids during fossilization. This process, occurring under anoxic conditions, has allowed for the preservation of microscopic details of the wood's texture, making these specimens not only fascinating but also valuable from a paleobotanical perspective.
Thanks to its smooth and stable surface, this fossil slice can be used as an exclusive decorative element: ideal as a tabletop surface or simply as a piece to display in a modern, ethnic, or museum setting. Each section is unique, an authentic fossil that tells millions of years of Earth's history at a glance.
