Set of 2 large Wayang Golek puppets – Java, Indonesia – mid-20th century – wood, textiles, paint

A beautiful pair of traditional Wayang Golek puppets from Java, hand-carved from wood and fully hand-painted. Both puppets wear original batik robes and finely detailed upper garments.

The faces are characteristic of the Javanese style: elongated, expressive, and intricately painted with sharp lines, graceful eyebrows, and red lips.

The set consists of:

1. Female figure (kebaya + batik skirt)

Classic brown batik skirt
With original control rods

Condition
Good decorative condition. Both dolls show light signs of aging for their age: some crackling in the paint, a few small signs of use on the hands and textiles. Nothing that detracts from the overall appearance.
