AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Wide margins. Folded as issued. Water spots in the paper. Beautiful copy.

The engraving depicts the Battle of Engelen, July 13, 1587, between the States troops led by Filips Ernst van Hohenlohe-Neuenstein (Holachius in the text) and the royalist Spanish troops commanded by Claude de Berlaymont, Lord of Haultepenne (Altapennius or Appius in the text). The battle took place near a fortified schans at Engelen, just above 's-Hertogenbosch, which was later strengthened and renamed Fort Crèvecoeur.
Troops of Hohenlohe defend a 'wagon fort.' On the left of the image, also, the bridge that the same Hohenlohe had built over the Dieze is visible. Bottom right of the image, the wounded Claude de Berlaymont is being carried away to 's-Hertogenbosch.

Published in 'Famiani Stradae De Bello Belgico', Mainz, 1651, Johann Godfried Schönwetter.
