Description from the seller
Josef Inwald – Barolac – Art Deco 'Galloping Horses' scale – Ice Blue Opaline – circa 1925–1935 – Rare
This impressive Art Deco bowl is a high-quality example of the famous Barolac glass by Josef Inwald, one of the leading glass manufacturers of Czechoslovakia during the interwar period. The piece is crafted in the rare ice-blue opaline glass, which emits an almost ethereal glow in light and beautifully highlights the deep reliefs.
Around the scale runs a frieze of galloping horses, executed in satin matte pressed glass with refined details such as manes, movement, and musculature – characteristic of the sculptural quality of Barolac. The object is heavily made, mouth-blown in a mold, and belongs to the most beloved models of the Barolac line, which during the same period competed with the works of Lalique and Sabino.
Description
The scale features a powerful, circular relief of galloping horses, framed by flowing lines and deep modeling. The matte and glossy surfaces alternate, creating striking Art Deco light and shadow effects.
The ice-blue glass is one of the most sought-after items within the Barolac collection. This type of glass subtly lets light through and combines clarity with a soft, milky opaline glow.
The object is not signed, as is customary for Barolac (originally Inwald models did not bear engraved signatures).
