The compositional structure is typical of the cards from the first half of the nineteenth century, characterized by simplicity in form and precision in descriptions.

Alexandre Delamarche (1815-1884) was a noted French cartographer and geographer. He came from a family of cartographers and geographers that included Jean-Françoise Delamarche and Charles-François Delamarche.
He is famous for producing numerous atlases and maps, often reprinting and updating the work of predecessors like Nicolas Sanson and Rigobert Bonne.
