The Zeppelin name was used only for the most exclusive cars Maybach built. In 1930, the German company presented the first DS8 at the Paris Motor Show.
The exclusive and expensive Maybach limousine was ordered by kings, emperors, and the very wealthy. A convertible was soon offered.

But as was customary at the time, the bodywork was signed by coachbuilder Spohn. The coachbuilding company founded by Herman Spohn is primarily associated with its vehicle bodies for luxury Maybach automobiles.

The Maybach SW38 Stromlinien-Cabriolet Spohn is one of the famous models in the line-up of international luxury cars from the 1930s.
