The SNCF De 141R (also known as 'Mikado') is a steam locomotive with a wheel arrangement of 1'D1. It was in operation on most of the French network from 1945 to 1974.
At the end of World War II, there was an acute shortage of locomotives in France, so it was decided to employ a larger number of major American and Canadian locomotive manufacturers. Based on the USRA Light Mikado, a locomotive adapted for the French railways was developed, equipped with European couplings, buffers, left-hand operation, and so on.
The first series of 700 machines was put into use in February 1945. The production was distributed among the three largest American locomotive manufacturers: Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, American Locomotive Company in Schenectady (New York), and Lima Locomotive Works in Lima (Ohio).
