Description from the seller
These are 4 antique buckles and/or belt ends from the Middle Ages and late Middle Ages.
Key details
Period: These objects date from the medieval and post-medieval period (circa 13th to 15th century AD).
Material: They were primarily made of a copper alloy, such as bronze or brass. Iron was less commonly used because it rusted more quickly.
Function: Buckles served both a practical purpose, such as fastening clothing or carrying weapons, and a decorative purpose to display the wearer's social status.
Decorations: The buckles show various decorative elements such as geometric/linear motifs: Stripe and circle decorations also occur.
The buckle on the lower right has a scalloped or wavy edge, a common feature of medieval fittings.
The third from the left may have a central motif surrounded by pearl borders, indicating high-quality craftsmanship.
Archaeological context: Similar finds are known from archaeological excavations of graves and settlements throughout Europe, including the Netherlands, Sweden and France.
Condition: You can judge the quality yourself based on the included scans. You may notice that some buckles are incomplete or damaged, but these are still interesting or collectible due to their rarity or quality.
