Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Antoine d'Agata (born in 1950), unavailable elsewhere signed on the internet and extremely rare in unsigned copies. This book by Antoine d'Agata, Stigma, is listed in Photobook by Parr & Badger, volume III, page 75 at the chapter heading as well as on page 98. 64 pages and 37 black-and-white and color photographs, with text in English and French by Philippe Azouly, hardcover illustrated cover.
To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, then you can return to the standard display at any time.
A dark and disturbing photographic investigation into the hidden face of prostitution and the people and bodies that inhabit this universe. In his accompanying text, Philippe Azoury concisely captures the atmosphere conveyed by these images: 'In the obscure darkness where flesh, words, and thought disappear into a marsh of decay, deviance and excess seem to have given them a particular awareness of what it means to exist. Their silent screams express the unbearable feeling that their own existence has gone beyond the limits. The raw nakedness of the human condition frozen in the photograph.' (Editor's note)
D'Agata's impressionist and romantic style—very different from most of his Magnum colleagues—might seem to contradict this feeling of urgency and despair, but in reality, it enhances the impression of hedonism consumed by need and sadness. It is a sexuality accompanied by intense anxiety, in a book of intense, tense, and nervous poetry.
Exemplary in excellent condition, practically like new. A book from my personal collection kept with the utmost care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international postal tracking. In case of multiple purchases, grouped shipping is possible with a refund of any overpaid postal fees via Paypal.
0.650 kg excluding packaging.
