Description from the seller

18th-century geographical map depicting the northern part of the Italian peninsula, including the States of the King of Sardinia (Piedmont, Savoy, and Nice), the Duchy of Milan, the Duchy of Parma, the Republic of Genoa, and the neighboring ecclesiastical provinces.

The title is enclosed in an elegant rococo decorative cartouche placed at the top right, accompanied by a putto and architectural motifs. The map accurately shows the network of rivers, mountain ranges, main settlements, and political boundaries.

It is part of the famous series 'Géographie Moderne, Historique et Politique', also known as 'Leçon Méthodique et Élémentaire', with descriptive text on the sides and at the bottom, where the territories are analyzed from a historical and administrative perspective.

The engraved ornamental border, featuring floral garlands and scientific instruments, is typical of Desnos editions dedicated to Enlightenment geographic education.

Registrations

In bass

In Paris, at Desnos Geographer Engineer for Globes and Spheres, at the Sign of the Globe, St. James Street.
Condition

Buono: visible but stable central fold, well-preserved antique coloring, slight oxidation at the edges, and minimal paper blooming, consistent with its age.
