The Battle of Grunwald, known in German as the First Battle of Tannenberg ('Schlacht bei Tannenberg') and in Lithuanian as the Battle of Žalgiris ('Žalgirio mūšis'), is one of the greatest battles in medieval European history. It was fought on the fields near Grunwald on July 15, 1410, during the Great War between the Teutonic Knights, supported by Western European knights under the command of Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen, and the combined forces of Polish and Lithuanian troops, Ruthenians, the Principality of Moldavia, and others, led by King Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland and Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania.
