Description from the seller
For sale is a pair of early, handcrafted wooden soldiers by Kay Bojesen – one of the most important designers of Danish modernism. The figures depict soldiers of the Royal Guard of Denmark (Den Kongelige Livgarde) in classic red uniforms and tall black hats.
The objects originate from early workshop production by Bojesen’s Workshop in Copenhagen, dated around 1942–1950. This is indicated by characteristic features: hand painting, old pigments, geometric forms, and proportions typical of the first series produced before post-war reissues.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
fully original polychromy
without repainting and without conservation interventions
Natural, even patina appropriate for the age.
Stable, complete figurines without structural damage.
Rarity and collectibility
Bojesen's early soldiers are among the rarest objects of his work—much rarer than contemporary reissues or popular monkeys and birds. Duets preserved in their original condition, without restoration, appear on the market sporadically.
Shipment
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with full insurance.
