Description from the seller
Reproduction of M.C. Escher - Metamorphosis II.
Made based on the original woodcut from 1939-1940 and divided into four parts, which together form an artwork nearly 13 feet wide and 8.7 inches high.
Signed and dated in the woodcut with MCE and XI'39- III'40
Connected forms of the four parts create a metamorphosis with the same start and end, and once framed, this results in a nearly four-meter-long artwork by M.C. Escher.
This is a copy of the original artwork as exhibited at Paleis Lange Voorhout in The Hague, published by the M.C. Escher Company of Baarn and printed in the Netherlands. All rights reserved.
In four pieces measuring 104 x 22 cm, 100.5 x 22 cm, 100.5 x 22 cm, and 104 x 22 cm, are contained within the original tube.
Tube dimensions: 26 x 8 x 8 cm.
The reproduction is in excellent condition, free of discolorations, wrinkles, folds, or other imperfections, and is shipped in the original case.
Maurits Cornelis Escher, born in Leeuwarden and died in Hilversum, is one of the most famous graphic artists in the world. Escher developed this metamorphosis in the late 1930s, inspired by his visit to the Alhambra.
In 'Metamorphose II,' the process begins from left to right with the word 'metamorphose.' This grid then becomes a black-and-white checkered pattern, which subsequently transforms into mosaics of reptiles, a honeycomb, insects, fish, birds, and a pattern of three-dimensional blocks and red peaks. These blocks are eventually connected by a bridge to a tower, a chessboard, and at the end, a checkered wall, which then returns to the word 'metamorphose,' causing the process to start all over again.
