Description from the seller

A Roman terra sigillata dish with applied decoration (2nd–3rd century A.D.) Rome. Diameter: 18.5 cm. Fragmented and professionally restored.

Terra sigillata is a type of Roman utility pottery, characterized by the red color of its glaze. The ceramics known by this name today are also distinguished by a glossy surface, either smooth or decorated with various relief motifs, typically figural and floral. The gloss was achieved by applying an engobe before firing at high temperatures. These vessels were also known for their exceptional durability.

This shallow dish, made of fine red terra sigillata, features applied relief decoration with two figures at its center. The main figure, larger in size, is dressed in typical Roman imperial attire and holds a staff. The secondary figure, smaller in size, appears nude, wearing only a cloak, and also holds a staff. The dish has a diameter of 18.5 cm and is fragmentary and restored.

Attached TL test from QED Laboratoire.
