Description from the seller

The mola is an indigenous textile art from the Kuna culture in Panama and northern Colombia, which originates from ancestral paintings (tattoos) made on women's bodies. It was during the arrival of the Spaniards in the isthmus that this custom of body painting moved onto fabrics (a new material brought by the colonizers) and transformed into clothing.
The techniques used are appliqué and reverse appliqué.
This mola depicts two sharks (sawfish?), a mother and her baby, I suppose.
The dominant color is Bordeaux.
The color choices make this mola a painting of great harmony.
Note that the black fabric of the large fish's scales shows signs of fading, which does not detract from the beauty of the object (see photos).
