Description from the seller
Solid and harmonious, this 279 mm Cassis cornuta shell perfectly embodies the natural elegance of large marine gastropods. Belonging to the Cassidae family, it is also known as the "Horned Helmet Shell" due to its distinctive knobby ridges and pronounced apical ridges that resemble small horns.
The shell has a massive, heavy shell, with a distinctive ivory-colored exterior, interspersed with golden-brown hues and natural patterns. The interior, however, is distinguished by its vibrant orange aperture, smooth and shiny, typical of this species and highly prized for decoration and collection purposes.
This species lives on sandy bottoms and near coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. A nocturnal predator, it feeds primarily on echinoderms such as sea urchins. It is one of the most iconic shells in tropical malacology, historically used in many cultures as an ornamental or ceremonial object.
The quality of the proposed specimen makes it ideal for:
scientific and naturalistic collections, exclusive marine furnishings, cabinets of curiosities.
Species: Cassis cornuta
Family: Cassidae
Origin: Indian Ocean – Madagascar
Size: 279 mm
Color: Ivory exterior with brown spots, deep orange interior

Ideal destination: Malacological collection, decoration, museum exhibition
