Description from the seller

Aragostronzianite and fluorescent plaster – Boccheggiano, Grosseto, Tuscany

This spectacular specimen, originating from Boccheggiano, weighs 2050 grams and measures 178 × 111 × 108 mm. It is a large and exceptionally visually striking sample, composed of an association of aragostronzianite and gypsum, two species that in this Tuscan locality reach some of the most intense levels of fluorescence and phosphorescence in absolute terms.

The sample features a complex structure, with various internal cavities and geodes where crystals of aragonite develop, arranged in white and pink aggregates with a vitreous luster. Under ultraviolet light, aragonite reacts by emitting a glow that ranges from bright pink to orange and red, while the gypsum, filling part of the cavities and forming massive, translucent crystals, exhibits an extraordinary blue-cyan fluorescence.

This double optical reaction, unique to the locality, creates a spectacular chromatic contrast: the warm tones of aragonite alternate with the cool glows of gypsum, resulting in a dynamic and harmonious visual effect. Additionally, both minerals exhibit persistent phosphorescence, maintaining their glow even after the UV lamp is turned off.

From a mineralogical perspective, Boccheggiano is one of the most important Italian localities for this association of species, formed in secondary cavities related to hydrothermal phenomena rich in sulfates and carbonates. Specimens of this size and quality of response to ultraviolet light are becoming increasingly difficult to find, which gives the specimen significant scientific and collector's value.

Kire Minerals is proud to present this extraordinary specimen, personally selected by Erik Lombini with passion and expertise. Each piece is born from careful research, the result of years of experience and a genuine love for Italian mineralogy.
