Description from the seller
Two magnificent modernist gold-bronze valet trays by French artist Max LE VERRIER.
Max LE VERRIER (1891-1973) was a French sculptor. During World War II, the artist was a resistance member, so he temporarily closed his studio. After liberation, he resumed his business and shifted towards creating bronze objects: ashtrays, religious items, medals…
This French sculptor received a gold medal at the first International Exhibition of Decorative Arts.
His style is synonymous with eclectic, blending elegance and modernism. Influenced by various cultures (ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, tribal art…), he is interested in new technologies and their different forms.
The first empty pocket represents the harvests of the month of JUNE (engraved on the back). The second empty pocket depicts a ram's head, likely the astrological sign. The two cups are placed on three small bronze feet. They are signed on the back by hand 'M. Le Verrier' and each bears their own 'BRONZE' stamp.
Diameter of 10 cm with a height of 1.5 cm each. Total weight of the 2 catch-all trays is 396 g. In good overall condition with some wear related to their age. See the photos for more details; they are an integral part of the description.
