Rare copy signed by Flor Garduño on the front endpaper of the original English-language edition published by Aperture, 164 pages with 72 black-and-white photographs printed full-page, on recto only, with texts by Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes as an introduction. Gray-black cloth binding with the title embossed in blind on the spine in tone-on-tone characters, and illustrated dust jacket on the cover. The copy is in excellent overall condition.

Witnesses of Time gathers the remarkable images of Flor Garduño where the sacred and the symbolic are revealed in everyday life. In remote corners of Central and South America, indigenous peoples continue to practice ancient rituals as they have for millennia. Their rites embody a distinct worldview and a unique perception of time. Resulting from journeys to ritual cities in Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, this book, 'Guardians of Time,' encompasses landscapes, architectures, ceremonies, tableaux, and individual portraits. The characters in Garduño's evocative images become clues to the spirituality of the indigenous cosmos. The reliefs suggest other orders of invisible beings. Ordinary acts take on an additional dimension through their ritual associations, in communities that still maintain their ties with the environment. Complemented by an introduction from the renowned Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes, 'Guardians of Time' is a tribute to a fascinating way of life, depicted with unparalleled grace.

Born in Mexico City in 1957, For Garduño's education sparked her imagination and curiosity about myths. She studied visual arts at the Academy of Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 1979, she began working as an assistant to Latin America's greatest photographer, Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902–2002). Garduño's photographic work then took her to remote rural areas of Mexico, giving her the opportunity to discover her country and its many indigenous peoples, and to develop her own style.

His photographs have been widely exhibited in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. Garduño's photographs are held in the permanent collections of leading museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Museum of Photography in Antwerp, the National Library of France, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, and others (according to L’œil de la photographie).
