Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Sophie Calle (born in 1953), unique and unavailable in signed copies. This is the original edition published by Editions Xavier Barral and the Centre Georges Pompidou in the first impression of 2003. An artist's book with numerous sheets of different formats inserted separately from the book and integrated into the same binding. 444 pages with many photographs and text. Very beautiful publisher’s binding illustrated on the cover and back cover. In excellent condition.

This comprehensive retrospective (at the time) of artist Sophie Calle was published on the occasion of the exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris from November 2003 to March 2004, and it was highly successful, requiring the catalogue to be reprinted immediately in 2004. This book celebrates the scope and intelligence of her iconoclastic work and also leads to a deeper understanding of her unique artistic vision. The conceptual artist Sophie Calle's work spans many media: photography, storytelling, film, and memory, to name just a few. Often controversial, Calle's projects explore issues of voyeurism, intimacy, and identity as she secretly investigates, reconstructs, and documents the lives of strangers—inviting them to sleep in her bed, following them into a hotel, or tracking them through the city. Taking on multiple roles—detective, documentarian, behavioral specialist, and chronicler—Sophie Calle blurs the line between life and art. The book features Calle’s most famous works, including The Blind, No Sex Last Night, The Hotel, The Address Book, A Woman Disappears, and others, as well as lesser-known and earlier projects that largely escaped public attention. This monumental collection of Calle’s photographs, diary excerpts, and video images also includes three critical essays, an interview with the artist, and a captivating dialogue with her fellow artist Damien Hirst, a leading figure in the British art scene.
