Description from the seller

Superb and extremely rare Egyptian offering table made in two parts from the Old Kingdom Period (2592 - 2118 BC): the pedestal is in limestone, the flat table in Pink stone and the offering plates ( five ) in alabaster.
The dimensions are for the pedestal 7.5 x 11 cm, the flat table 2 x 31 cm and for the bigger plate in alabaster 1 x 5.5 cm.
All pieces are intact.

These tables were essential elements in tombs and temples, used to present offerings to the gods and the deceased. The offering table served as a point of contact between the world of the living and the world of the dead, facilitating the supply of food, drink and other goods necessary for the sustenance of the deceased in the afterlife.

Limestone and alabaster were materials commonly used in the construction of these objects due to their availability and aesthetic properties. Limestone, easy to carve and abundant in Egypt, allowed the creation of robust and durable structures. Alabaster, with its translucent and soft appearance, was used for finer and decorative details, adding a touch of luxury and reverence to the table.

The offering tables not only had a practical and ritual purpose, but also reflected the fundamental beliefs and values of ancient Egypt, such as the importance of life after death and the need to maintain the memory and well-being of the deceased through of continuous offerings. These pieces are a testament to the artistic ingenuity and deep spirituality of Old Kingdom Egyptian culture.

Acquired from a Spanish private collection, R.B.C in the 70's.
- The piece includes authenticity certificate.
