Margarete Weidling-Roehse was a German sculptor known for her masterful enamel works on copper, which combine technical precision with a modern, abstract aesthetic. Working primarily in the mid-20th century, she explored the expressive possibilities of colour and texture through the challenging medium of fired enamel. Her art bridges traditional craftsmanship and contemporary abstraction, resulting in richly luminous surfaces that capture both spontaneity and control.

Enamel on copper is created by applying layers of finely powdered glass to a copper plate and firing it in a kiln at high temperatures (typically 850-1000°C). Each firing bonds the enamel permanently to the copper, producing a vibrant and durable surface with subtle variations in texture and tone. The process makes every piece unique, as the heat transforms the enamel unpredictably, adding organic depth and brilliance to the composition.
