Description from the seller
French Art Déco centerpiece in pressed and satin-finished opalescent glass. A signed Sabino cup for Ezan, from the 1920s France. It was made by the Ezan workshop in Paris. Imposing Art Déco centerpiece/cup in opalescent glass, created around 1925-1930 by Sabino glassworks for Ezan. This bowl/plate with an unusual design is a splendid example of elegant craftsmanship for which Ezan and Sabino collaborated. This cup is modeled with a beautiful relief design of six sparrows with spread wings, with the star-shaped form at the center serving as a support for the birds. Typical of Sabino's excellence are the refined details of the birds, enhanced by a depth effect due to the opalescence. The opalescence produces a delightful halo effect, with colors ranging from intense turquoise to white, tending to pale yellow-orange depending on the light refraction. It is said to be obtained by mixing limestone and arsenic, toxic substances, which is why it is no longer produced. The cup is mounted on a decorative base in bronze or brass with figures of sirens serving as handles. The Art Déco style is characterized by geometric shapes and a modern aesthetic, popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
Dimensions: height 19 x diameter 31.8 cm.
