Description from the seller
Finely Cast 19th-Century Bronze Eagle Cigar Lighter / Oil Lamp
(Attributed to Erhard & Söhne)
A striking and finely detailed late-19th-century bronze model of a standing eagle, inspired by Suger’s Eagle and attributed to the renowned workshop Erhard & Söhne, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg.
Elegantly cast and crisply chiseled, this sculptural piece served as both a cigar lighter and an oil lamp. The spout is designed to hold a wick, while the body of the eagle forms the oil reservoir. A beautiful fusion of function and art, executed with the precision and craftsmanship characteristic of Erhard & Söhne in the second half of the 19th century.
Condition: Stopper missing; otherwise in very good condition with rich patina.
An exceptional collector’s item—both practical and decorative—representing fine German bronze artistry of the period.
