Ferdinando Scianna, signed, presents Marpesa’s portfolio with a Dolce & Gabbana Jersey bag, 1st edition in Italian, published by Dolce & Gabbana, soft cover, 64 pages, from 1987.
Description from the seller
Unique and rare 30-page photographic portfolio by Ferdinando Scianna, exceptionally signed on an initial title page, housed in a jersey fabric case bearing the Dolce & Gabbana logo (see photo).
This catalog marks Ferdinando Scianna's initial encounter with the Sicilian designers Dolce and Gabbana, who settled in Milan in 1987, and it is the first publication in which the one called Marpesa appears. Indeed, a book with that title was published later by Contrejour and Leonardo Arte, but that was much later, in 1993.
Ferdinando Scianna (born in 1943) here converges fashion photography and neo-realist photography.
Ferdinando Scianna stated on this subject: "Looking at these images, I realized that through them I had begun a journey into the memory of my Sicilian childhood, digging through the archaeological remains of the feeling of womanhood forever engraved in my early years." It can also be added that this Sicily of his childhood, which has disappeared, Scianna is trying to revive here. Moreover, isn't the child photographing Marpessa none other than Ferdinando Scianna himself?
These photographs were taken by Ferdinando Scianna for the launch of the collection by the designers Dolce & Gabbana, then practically unknown. Ferdinando Scianna and Domenico Dolce are both Sicilian, and they decided to shoot these photographs in Sicily. The model, Marpesa, (Marpessa Hennink), with brown hair and green eyes, is Dutch, but she transforms here into a true Sicilian by immersing herself in daily life and the natural scenery of these small Sicilian towns, among the locals and with them.
Book from my personal collection in excellent condition, but the title page shows signs of humidity, whereas the photographic plates show no signs and are in perfect condition. This document has been kept with the utmost care since purchase. Shipping is protected with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracking. For multiple purchases, there is the possibility of combined shipping with reimbursement of the excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
