Originating from the Netherlands, this silver 19th‑century Dutch host/pill box is handcrafted with a detachable lid, ornately decorated with floral engravings and a central initial‑cartouche, hallmarked with the old sword assay mark (1813–1906) and a maker’s mark, measuring 3.0 cm in diameter, 11.0 mm high, 30.0 mm wide/deep, and weighing 21.5 g in gross weight, and is in excellent, barely used condition.
Description from the seller
Rare handmade 19th century Dutch silver Hostidoos / Pillbox
The box is particularly beautiful in shape and has been handcrafted in great detail and finished all around.
The box has a decorated removable lid.
The lid is hand-decorated with floral decorations and refined engravings.
The lid also features a centrally located unengraved cartouche where a name or initials can be engraved (this is rare because it is usually already engraved).
The box also has a special cylindrical circle decoration on the bottom (see photos).
The box is inspected and marked with Dutch silver fat hallmarks:
Content mark of the old type of sword used from 1813 to 1906.
Also marked with the master mark of the silversmith who made the box (see photos)
The box has a diameter of 3.00 cm and weighs 10.5 grams.
The box has probably not been used or has hardly been used, because for its age of at least 125 years it is in a remarkably beautiful and intact condition with a few minimal, inconspicuous signs of wear.
This beautiful, rare, handmade, 1st grade silver Dutch silver box is a striking and particularly decorative object due to its beautiful shape, detailed workmanship and rare decoration on the bottom.
The box has an extremely chic appearance and is a jewel to behold.
Also fun to use.
Packed with care and shipped insured.
