Description from the seller

The name 'Perisphinctes' derives from ancient Greek and means 'with a turn around,' referring to the spiral shape of the shell.
It is a fossil found in many locations around the world, particularly in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The discoveries in Madagascar are especially spectacular, where the fossils have been preserved in an extraordinary way.
The lot in question shows a Perisphinctes belonging to the Upper Cretaceous Oxfordian period. Found in Sakarana, southern Madagascar, from the heart of the natural limestone quarry.
The sutures, clearly visible here, form intricate and harmonious divisions between the internal chambers of the shell. In Perisphinctes, these lines are particularly elaborate, characterized by wavy patterns that give the fossil a decorative appearance.
The internal chambers contain calcite, and a slight opacification of the shell is observed.
An object rich in an antique charm, an interior decor item capable of defining any space.
XXL dimensions: 5.48 kg (length 26 cm, height 27 cm, depth 7 cm).
Pedestal not included, made from recycled material and used for photographic purposes only.
Happy bidding.
