Scientific name: †Carpopenaeus callirostris - Fossil Shrimp associations of 2 individuals in a mass mortality plate
Location: Hjoula, Byblos, Lebanon
Geological Formation: Sannine Formation
Age: Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian stage (~94 million years)
Size: 8,54cm long (the biggest) - Matrix: 9,5x6,9x5,3cm

Observations: Interesting association of 2 fossil shripms in a mass mortality plate. One of them has an unusual large size. These fossil shrimps (Carpopenaeus species) comes from the famous Cretaceous outcrops of Lebanon. These fossil deposits were first mentioned by the Greek historian Herodotus where he said there were "fish in the stones".
Regarding their restorations, repairs, and lab stabilization: Their outline have simply been slightly excavated to make it stand out (highligh) from their natural matrix. A stabilizer has also been applied to their surface for better preservation. The small one, its almost perfect with no color enhancement, just a colorless stabilizer have been applied. The biggest one have a little of color enhancement.
