Description from the seller
Set of 3 handwritten Persian leaflets – Classical poetry & scholarly commentary – Nastaʿlīq – Iran / India, 1750–1850.
Set of three Persian manuscript sheets, recto and verso, dated from the early 19th century (circa 1750–1850), originating from literary and scholarly manuscripts from the Iranian or Indo-Persian tradition.
1. Sheets of classical poetry – Saadi / Persian school
Two sheets feature a four-column layout, framed in brown ink, with text in very regular nastaʿlīq script.
The vocabulary (hikāyat, roi, moral advice, world, wisdom…) corresponds to the Persian literary traditions of the Būstān or Gulistan by Saadi, or to related moral works.
Elegant calligraphy, crafted by a trained scribe. Well-preserved ink, handmade oriental paper. A very fine example of 19th-century Persian poetic manuscripts.
A scholarly leaf with numerous marginal glosses (Sharḥ / Hāshiyah).
The third leaf comes from a theological, ethical, or philosophical manuscript, with
A main text framed, with numerous marginal annotations (hāshiyah), alternating black and red ink (titles and markers), and a layout typical of Persian and Indo-Persian teaching materials.
This type of sheet, annotated by a student or a teacher, is highly sought after for its historical value and pedagogical testimony.
Between 1750 and 1850 (Iran or late Mughal India). Persian Nastaʿlīq manuscript.
Oriental artisanal paper (vat-dyed paper).
Approximately 23 × 16 cm each.
Good overall condition considering the age.
Irregular edges, small marginal wear, slightly stained paper, ink perfectly legible.
Combine two fundamental genres of Persian written culture: classical poetry (Saadi / moral tradition), and scholarly commentary (teaching, theology, ethics).
Very beautiful calligraphy.
Abundant, rare, and sought-after marginal glosses.
