AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1887-1895. Cristallerie Legras & Cie at St Denis. France

Magnificent antique large glass vase in the shape of a flacon soliflore, made of blown and molded glass, depicting an acrobat woman on a balloon with loose hair, executed in the purest Art Nouveau style of the late 19th century.

Signed DÉPOSÉ (one of Legras& Cie's well-known signatures) behind the base.

Rare height of 41 cm with a nice volume.

Magnificent proof titled 'The Acrobat,' perfectly documented and illustrated in the renowned catalog raisonné 'Legras Maître Verrier.' See the latest photos.

The work :

The female acrobat (also called an antipodist) is depicted upside down, with her head on a globe and her feet on the neck. Due to its construction and the inverted anatomy of the figure, the carafe could be easily grasped to pour the liqueur. It is therefore not surprising to see it featured in Legras catalogs for at least twenty consecutive years, and it is certain that the manufacturing was done in Saint-Denis. The theme of the acrobat, like that of the clown (see this name), is festive and neutral; it is neither historical nor political: it reflects the enthusiasm for the circus throughout the Third Republic. The article is complemented by a wide range of representations of circus professions.

In very good condition for its great age, with no flaws or chips. A magnificent collectible from the Art Nouveau period by LEGRAS, from the late 19th century, which is sure to enhance your interior and evoke admiration from your guests!

Beautiful mark of the pontil of the blowpipe, cut with pliers, a sign of a long-standing, high-quality artisanal craftsmanship.

Parisian private family collection.

Very professional, carefully secured, and guaranteed custom shipping with tracking and insurance. See my reviews :)
