Description from the seller

Civitates Orbis Terrarum: 363 engravings revolutionize the image of the world. Complete edition of the colored plates 1572-1617. Publisher TASCHEN 2011.
Beautiful large-format work reproducing the complete set of the 363 colored plates from the famous 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Georg Braun and Franz Hogenberg.
The 'Civitates orbis terrarum' (Cities of the World) is an illustrated geography book published in Cologne between 1572 and 1617, considered one of the first atlases gathering views and plans of cities around the world. It was edited by Georg Braun, in collaboration with cartographer Franz Hogenberg and several other artists. It is one of the most famous illustrated geographical books of the modern era. It has been reissued numerous times since the 17th century.
This is the 2011 Taschen edition (original edition in 2008), measuring 39 x 27 x 6 cm and weighing 5 kg. There have been other editions in a reduced format since then.
A 504-page full-color book in French, reproducing all 363 engravings, along with translations of original Latin texts, from the copy of 'Civitates orbis terrarum' held by the 'Historisches Museum Frankfurt.' The numerous photographs show different presentation formats of the engravings: full double pages, multiple engravings on a single double page, and some detailed views. The book is complemented by a bibliography and a city index. It includes a dust jacket and a protective box.
Work in excellent condition.
