Description from the seller
6 bottles of Chateauneuf du Pape domaine TOURBILLON 2019 cuvée 1947.
Our Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée "1947" owes its name to the year the vines were planted. It comes from the Pignan district and is made from a single-varietal Grenache grape. It is a wine of great purity and remarkable intensity.
The district, located on light, sandy soils, is renowned for producing wines of exceptional finesse, with a clear and precise expression of the Grenache grape variety.
This single-varietal Grenache Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a perfect example of the purity and elegance this grape variety can offer, particularly when grown in a terroir as renowned as Pignan and carefully aged in old Burgundy barrels. It is ideal with refined dishes such as duck breast, grilled meats, or mature cheeses.
The initial nose is generous and complex, revealing aromas of ripe red fruits. Morello cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry are evident. These are complemented by subtle notes of black fruits such as plum and blackcurrant, as well as floral touches evoking rose and violet. Aging in old Burgundy barrels for 18 months adds a light woody touch, with nuances of blond tobacco, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla.
On the palate, this wine is remarkably elegant, with a silky texture and beautiful depth. The Grenache expresses itself fully, offering a voluptuous roundness and remarkable concentration. The tannins are fine, melted, and very well integrated, highlighting the sweetness and richness of the fruit. Red fruit notes dominate, accompanied by spicy and peppery nuances typical of Grenache, as well as light woody touches brought by aging in Burgundy barrels.
The finish is long, marked by a beautiful freshness and a discreet minerality that balances the wine's richness. The aromas of red fruits and spicy notes linger pleasantly, leaving an impression of finesse and harmony. This wine has remarkable aging potential, with promises of evolving towards more tertiary aromas of leather and undergrowth over time.
