This Guatemalan real is a significant example of Guatemala's monetary transition at the end of the 19th century. The date '1899/8' indicates that this coin was re-minted or reused from previous dies. The design commemorates Central America's independence in 1821 and the Liberal Revolution of 1871 in Guatemala.
