France: Merovingian period, late Gallo-Roman era, or early Middle Ages.
Ovoid biconical vase in dark terracotta, black ceramic, with a biconical body turned with a decorative band of raised parallel lines on the upper part and a flat base. Merovingian period, 4th to 6th century AD.
Inside, an old label bearing the inscription '11 VD'.
Perfect condition - intact piece, height 12.5 cm.
Provenance: France. Private collection acquired from a gallery/antique dealer. Previously part of an old French collection of Merovingian and Roman ceramics, private collection.
