Unexpected Biography
The numerous biographies and studies devoted to the creator of Tintin almost all refer, at one point or another, to Hergé's interest in Freemasonry, the occult sciences, and theosophy... but none had gone so far in their investigations to understand who Georges Remi was. A friend of Edgar P. Jacobs and Jacques Van Melkebeke, who greatly influenced him, Hergé, a secretive and enigmatic figure, was intimately familiar with these circles, perhaps even a member of some of them, but who was he really? What message did he want to convey? To find out, Olivier Reibel, a seasoned Tintin enthusiast, meticulously examined the Tintin albums, one after the other, searching for the slightest reference, the smallest clue. Using extracts, he shows that Hergé continually winks at us with drawings, but also with expressions, onomatopoeia... Packed with new elements and very well documented, this fascinating investigation demonstrates that esotericism is indeed omnipresent at the heart of Hergé's work and life, and reveals the many hidden esoteric symbols illustrating each Tintin album.
