Description from the seller
Gilded copper monstrance mount - High period - 14th–15th century
Old liturgical mount designed to hold a glass housing containing the consecrated host. The upper part features an architecturally shaped frame in the form of an ogive, topped with a small Latin cross. The interior shows traces of detachment from the glass or internal reliquary mounting system, which is now missing.
The barrel features an elegant ovoid knot and a simple turning characteristic of Gothic productions. The circular base, heavily worn, still shows traces of mercury gilding. Several clues (forged nails, irregularities in planing, hammered assemblies) confirm traditional handcrafting.
Gilding wear, deformations, visible missing parts and repairs. The glazed part is missing. The frame is structured but fragile.
Dimensions: Height 23 cm – Width 7 cm – Base: Ø 10 cm.
Rare piece for the collector of ancient liturgical goldsmithery, museum study, or restoration.
