AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This standing Buddha statue is depicted with a begging bowl. In Buddhism, the begging bowl, or alms bowl, is one of the simplest yet most important objects in the daily life of Buddhist monks. It is primarily a practical object, used as a container to collect alms from lay supporters.

Shortly after Shakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment, the four great protector gods of the four directions each gifted him a begging bowl, the most beautiful made of precious gemstones and the simplest of ordinary clay. Shakyamuni either chose the simple clay bowl or accepted all four bowls and miraculously transformed them into a single simple bowl that met the needs of a humble mendicant. These legends, along with its simple monastic use, have made the humble begging bowl a symbol of the Buddha's teaching on detachment.

This wooden sculpture is a unique piece, hand-carved by the highly talented artists of the beautiful kingdom of Cambodia.
