Scientific name: natural group of ammonites of the genus Perisphinctes; Specimen: Fascinating natural formation; Geological period: Upper Jurassic (Oxfordian–Kimmeridgian); Treatment: Conserved; Condition: Natural.
Description from the seller
An enchanting natural composition formed by numerous specimens of the genus Perisphinctes, beautifully preserved in a compact matrix. The ammonites display the typical planispiral coiling and fine, regular radial costae that elegantly bifurcate toward the outer edge of the shell, distinctive features of this Jurassic genus.
The color ranges from golden beige to light brown, with slight mineral iridescence highlighting the original calcitic structure. It is a natural formation, not assembled, coming from the fossil beds of Sakaraha in southwestern Madagascar: an area known for the extraordinary preservation and paleontological richness of its Jurassic layers.
The composition, mounted on a black metal base, is ideal for both furniture and scientific collection. Each ammonite tells a story of marine life dating back approximately 150 million years, when the warm waters of the Jurassic were inhabited by these elegant cephalopods.
Details:
Species: Perisphinctes sp.
Period: Late Jurassic (Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian)
Provenance: Sakaraha, Madagascar
Type: Natural (not assembled)
Support: Metal base included
Conservation: Excellent, with well-visible morphological details.
An authentic piece that combines aesthetics and natural history, perfect for those seeking the balance between organic beauty and paleontological value.
