In Roman mythology, Athena is known as Minerva. She is the goddess of wisdom, warfare (particularly strategic and defensive aspects), crafts, and the arts. Roman soldiers, or legionaries, relied heavily on discipline, strategy, and skill—traits that are under the auspices of Minerva.
Around 82 AD, Emperor Domitian founded the First Legion Minervia, the full name seems to have been I Flavia Minervia: Flavia being the family name of Domitian, and Minerva being his favourite deity.
