Background information about the SIGNED photo book 'Aufsicht'.
Wolfgang Tillmans (*August 16, 1968, in Remscheid) is a German photographer and artist who lives and works in Berlin and London. His work is characterized by attentive observation of his environment and by exploring the fundamentals of photography. In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize, becoming the first photographer and the first non-Briton to receive it. In 2009, he also received the Culture Award from the German Society for Photography (DGPh). To date, around three dozen photobooks have been published featuring his work.
Content of the photo book 'Supervision'
The out-of-print monograph 'Aufsicht' by Wolfgang TILLMANS offers the first overview of these works – landscapes and cityscapes reinterpreted through the use of disturbing lighting effects. It also includes his works 'Blushes' and 'Mental Pictures', seemingly fragile compositions he created without negatives, solely through the exposure of photographic paper.
These works shed new light on his figurative photographs – his Drapery images, still lifes, and the series 'Eclipse' and 'Concorde' – in which the abstract quality of his motifs and compositions already took center stage. Most of the images featured in this volume – especially the photographs and inkjet prints from the last four years – mark a new phase in the artist's work, which he explains in a captivating interview.
Hatje Verlag, Stuttgart 2001. First edition.
Bound with illustrated dust jacket. 305 x 250 mm. 204 numbered pages with over 120 color photographs. An introduction by Zdenek Felix, as well as a written record of a conversation with Wolfgang TILLMANS and a four-page essay by Giorgio Verzotti in German.
Condition: The book is in good to very good condition both inside and out, with minor storage marks on the undamaged dust jacket. The front endpaper is signed by Wolfgang TILLMANS in pencil with his full name!
