HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
Did you know that the design of the 124 Sport Spider has Dutch roots? This is all related to the well-known Dutch designer Tom Tjaarda, who was employed by Pininfarina at the time. The design is based on Tjaarda's earlier design for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which ultimately was not produced due to too many European influences. Fiat was interested in this design, and it formed the basis for the Sport Spider, which was introduced half a year after the popular four-door Fiat 124 (in 1967). Over the years, the appearance was slightly modified and the engines were enlarged. This eventually led to the CS1 model, which was equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and was only sold in the United States. The example offered by us was produced in 1974 (but for the 1975 model year) and was later imported from the favorable climate of the US to the Netherlands. Since 2022, the car has been registered with Belgian plates. An extensive instruction manual and workshop manual are available with the car.
Exterior
The beautiful design remains just as attractive and timeless. Characteristic of this type are the bulges on the hood. The emblem of Pininfarina adorns the side. The striking yellow color 'Giallo Pagoda' (repainted paintwork) contrasts beautifully with the matte black hood and trunk and gives the car a sporty appearance reminiscent of the Abarth version. The absence of a front bumper also contributes to this. The paintwork is in a lovely condition. The car is equipped with alloy wheels. The black soft top is free of tears and also in good condition. The car's lines are beautiful, and we have not found any rust on the vehicle.
Interior
The interior has been refreshed and is therefore in good condition. The bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in both leather and fabric. A nice feature is the two-spoke wooden steering wheel. The wooden dashboard houses an extensive instrument panel with various gauges such as oil pressure, temperature gauge, voltmeter, and a tachometer. The interior also includes heating and a radio cassette player.
TECHNICAL
The engine bay looks dry and accommodates the 1,756 cc 4-cylinder engine, which is standardly coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The tires all around still have sufficient tread. The car is equipped with new electrical ignition from CSI, and recently new spark plugs and a new battery have been installed. Additionally, a maintenance service with fresh oil has been performed. Especially thanks to the light weight of 960 kg and rear-wheel drive, it is a pleasure to drive the Spider. The car runs and shifts well.
Advice:
Last season, the Fiat was driven little. We recommend a new service so that you can drive many more kilometers. The tires have enough tread but are outdated.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
