HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
Did you know the design of the 124 Sport Spider has Dutch roots? This all comes down to the well-known Dutch designer Tom Tjaarda, who was employed by Pininfarina at the time. The design is based on Tjaarda’s earlier concept for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which ultimately was not produced due to too many European influences. Fiat did show interest in this design, and this laid the groundwork for the Sport Spider, introduced half a year after the popular four-door Fiat 124 (in 1967). Over the years, the appearance was slightly changed and the engines were enlarged. This eventually led to the CS1 type, equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and offered only in the United States. The example we offer was produced in 1974 (model year 1975) and was later imported from the favorable climate of the USA to the Netherlands. Since 2022 the car is registered with a Belgian license plate. The car comes with an extensive instruction manual and workshop manual.
EXTERIOR
The beautiful design remains as stunning and timeless as ever. Characteristic for this model are the bulges on the hood. On the side, the Pininfarina emblem graces the panel. The striking yellow color 'Giallo Pagoda' (newly repainted finish) contrasts beautifully with the matte black hood and trunk, giving the car a sporty look reminiscent of the Abarth edition. The absence of a front bumper also contributes to this. The paintwork is in good condition. The car comes with alloy wheels. The black soft top is free of cracks and also in good condition. The car’s lines are elegant and we could not find any rust.
INTERIOR
The interior has been refreshed and is in neat condition. The bucket seats and rear seat are upholstered in half leather and half fabric. A nice feature is the 2-spoke wooden steering wheel. The wooden dashboard houses an extensive instrument panel with various gauges such as oil pressure, temperature, voltmeter, and a tachometer. The interior also includes heating and a cassette radio.
TECHNICAL
The engine bay looks dry and accommodates the 1,756 cc inline-4 engine, which is standardly paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The tires around the car still have adequate tread. The car is equipped with a new CSI electrical ignition and recently new spark plugs and a new battery were installed. Additionally, an service has been performed with fresh oil. Particularly thanks to its light weight of 960 kg and rear-wheel drive, it is a pleasure to drive with the Spider. The car runs and shifts well.
Advice:
Last season the Fiat was driven infrequently. We recommend a new service so you can enjoy many more kilometers. The tires have sufficient tread but are aged.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
