Roman glass fusiform unguentarium – Eastern Mediterranean, 1st–3rd century AD – Ex Paul Sadargue collection (Syria–Lebanon, 1924–1942)

Description

Fine Roman glass unguentarium with an elegant fusiform body and tall narrow neck, blown in a beautiful pale blue glass of excellent tone.
The surface shows natural weathering and thin iridescence, typical of long burial in the Eastern Mediterranean.

These vessels were used to hold perfumes or precious oils and are characteristic of Roman Levantine production of the 1st–3rd century AD.
