The artwork depicted in the image is 'The Threatened Swan' (in Dutch, De bedreigde zwaan), a work by the Dutch painter Jan Asselijn, created around 1650.

The painting shows a swan in a defensive position, intent on protecting its nest from a dog.

It is one of the earliest paintings of animals to also be interpreted as a political allegory: in the 18th century, it was seen as a symbol of defending the homeland, and the swan was associated with the politician Johan de Witt, who was murdered in 1672.

The artwork is located at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

A curiosity: this image has become a true national symbol in the Netherlands and one of the first paintings to be acquired by the Dutch State.
