Rare antique ceramic pot for Véritable Graisse d’Ours bears fat, from Ed. Pinaud, Paris, dating to circa 1860, displaying blue and white colours, dimensions about 6.8 cm wide and 5.8 cm high, with a base mark D_L and no later branding, in good condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Rare antique bear fat glass from Ed. Pinaud, Paris – circa 1860 (prototype?)
An extraordinary collectible from the early history of perfumery in France: this original bear fat jar ('Véritable Graisse d’Ours') by Ed. Pinaud dates from around 1860 and features a unique characteristic – it does not yet bear the Edouard Pinaud imprint, but only the inscription 'Véritable Graisse d’Ours' and the bottom mark 'D_L'.
Historical significance
Dating: around 1860, early production phase of the brand.
Prototype character: Since the typical 'Ed. Pinaud Paris' imprint is missing, it is obviously a rare pre-series or sample piece, before the final brand signatures were introduced.
Impression: ground marking 'D_L' – interpreted as depot legal or glass factory code.
Features of the object
The reduced labeling is typical for early prototypes.
Collector's value: an extremely rare variant with an unusual signature, hardly found on the market.
Condition: Very well preserved, with authentic patina.
Historical connection: directly from the golden age of French perfume art.
From a collector's perspective: comparable pieces only appear sporadically in international auctions or collector forums.
