Designer Heinz Hommerich for Ü-Keramik, vintage brutalist-style candle holder in chamotte clay, glazed taupe with bronze hues and selenium red glaze, 32 cm high, 20 cm wide, 13 cm deep, made in Germany, circa 1954–1955, in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, featuring Heracles on the front and the Tree of Life with golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides on the back, unsigned and from a private collection.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally rare candlestick designed by Heinz Hommerich for Ü-Keramik.
Heinz Hommerich was the first ceramist in Germany to introduce selenium red glaze in 1954.
Because this technique proved to be very difficult, the production of very short duration was very limited.
The few pieces in which selenium red glaze is used fall under the 'Studiokeramik' series.
This brutalist candelabrum is made from chamotte clay. It is a composite type of clay that is strong and lightweight.
Glossy glazed in a warm color combination of taupe with a bronze glow, brown, and the typical selenium red glaze.
The candlestick is decorated with a depiction from Greek mythology.
On the front, we see the demigod Heracles, and on the back, the tree of life with the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides.
The 11th labor that Heracles had to perform was stealing the golden apples.
This unsigned single piece comes from a private art collection.
It is virtually certain that this candlestick was made between 1954 and 1955.
The last two photos with the Uebelacker Keramik sticker do not belong to this candlestick but are of a different item that is located somewhere in Hungary.
This collector's item exudes strength and courage and fits into any vintage or contemporary interior.
Very good condition. No chips, no cracks.
Your purchase is carefully packaged and insured shipped.
