Description from the seller

Antique travel trunk with metallic reinforcements – First half of the 19th century.

Suggestive travel trunk, likely dating from the first half of the 19th century, made with a wooden structure (type of wood not identified) and originally covered in tarpaulin, now largely worn. The piece stands out for its complex construction and the striking visual impact of its metal decoration.

The chest features metallic bands nailed in place, serving both structural and decorative purposes, creating an interesting geometric pattern of squares and triangles. All sharp edges are protected by iron corner brackets, while the domed lid gives it a dynamic and unmistakable line.

The interior is lined with fabric featuring a floral pattern, presumably antique, and there are iron handles on the sides to facilitate transport.

It is equipped with an original lock, but the key is missing.

Conditions:

General conditions not good, but with strong aesthetic charm.

The coated fabric has almost completely disappeared on the lid.

Some metallic bands are missing or loose.

The wood is partially exposed, creating an interesting contrast between the raw material and metal structures.

Despite wear, the trunk retains a strong visual presence and can be appreciated both as a decorative furnishing object and as a historical testimony of travel in the nineteenth century.

Dimensions:

Length: 107 cm

Width: 57 cm

Height (maximum overall size): 56 cm
