This is a barley twist standing wooden coat rack or clothes rail, typical of the late 19th century Arts & Crafts English or European style.
Key Features
Style: The "barley twist" style is a distinctive way of turning wood that creates a single or multiple twist pattern along the length of the post. This technique is often found on period furniture, such as columns and balustrades.
Despite this, it also has the hallmarks of art deco, with a square bottom and triangular top.
The second rack can be rotated from below, we push it a little and it spins nicely, definitely excellent carpentry work, finely turned furniture with a delicate touch, and will stand the test of time.
It is in extremely good condition, with minor signs of use.
The dress has started to varnish on a couple of hangers, see photos.
