Description from the seller
Finely Hand-Carved large Colonial Serving Teak Tray with Birds and Floral Motifs
In Excellent Condition – No Reserve
A beautifully detailed, hand-carved serving tray made of solid Teak hardwood with Teak handles, dating from the early 20th century.
The tray features two stylized birds surrounded by delicately carved branches and blossoms, all framed by intricate geometric borders — a fine example of colonial craftsmanship blending European Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) influences with Asian decorative traditions.
Such trays were typically produced in the early 1900s in the Asian colonies (likely Indonesia or British India) for export to the European market. They were prized for their refined carving, symmetry, and use of exotic hardwoods with rich warm tones and natural sheen.
Dimensions: 55 x 39 cm (60,5 cm including handles)
Material: Teak wood
Condition: Excellent, no cracks or discoloration, fully waxed and polished
Provenance: Private collection
A true eye-catcher that beautifully combines Art Nouveau elegance with Eastern craftsmanship — perfect as a decorative piece or functional serving tray.
