A superb roman marble bust of Marcus Annius Verus Caesar, son of Marcus Aurelius. A portrait bust of a very young child. Relatively long hair, partially covering the ears.The eyes, unarticulated, gaze unfocused at a distant point. The cheeks are full, the lips are slightly compressed, almost smiling. | Roman Imperial Period, during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. ca. 170 A.C. The piece includes french passport for cultural heritage.
Marcus Annius Verus Caesar (born 162 or 163 AD) was son of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and Empress Faustina the Younger. Annius was made caesar on 12 October 166 AD, alongside his brother Commodus, designating them co-heirs of the Roman Empire. Annius died on 10 September 169, at age seven, due to complications from a surgery to remove a tumor from under his ear. His death left Commodus as the sole heir.
IMPORTANT: The marble support of the pictures is not included. The piece includes modern metallic support ( see last pictures )

Provenance: Acquired at french auction house in 2019. French Private Collection, Anjou, since 1950's ( Documentation held by french auction house ).
Notes: The piece includes authenticity certificate. The piece includes Spanish Export License ( Passport for European Union)- If the piece is destined outside the European Union a substitution of the export permit will be requested by us.
