Collection of 8 Original Early Sketches by Arthur Rackham, a one-volume English-language collection of 8 pages dating from around 1896, in very good condition.

Small collection of 8 original sketches in a folder inscribed “Drawings by Arthur Rackham given to me by his brother Maurice Rackham, F. Lacey”, consisting of 8 drawings of various subjects, young boys, a woman, a group of men, an old man, two men playing woodwind instruments, two men sitting in a forest, a man climbing and two of a boy running, various sizes from 9” x 7” to 13” x 8”, no place, no date, together with a Typed Letter signed by M.C. Heseltine from a top London Auction house confirming that he has “no reason to doubt the contents of this note as the style of each of the drawings is in keeping with Rackham’s early work as an illustrator. A date of 1896 is indicated, two of the drawings have 96 inscribed in pencil ...”, 1 side folio, headed paper, 5th August 1988, the drawings circa 1896.
Rackham is recognised as one of the leading literary figures during the Golden Age of British book illustration. His work is noted for its robust pen and ink drawings, which were combined with the use of watercolour, a technique he developed due to his background as a journalistic illustrator.
